The IND vs WI ODI series continues with the third and final ODI to be played in Trinidad on July 27. Both teams then play a five-match T20I series starting on July 29 in Trinidad. West Indies must win the final ODI to save themselves from a second whitewash.
The side scored 311 batting first which turned out to be not enough for this Indian side. The visitors found a number of matchwinners in that game but none better than Axar Patel who scored an unbeaten 64 off 35 balls. Shreyas Iyer and Sanju Samson also scored runs for India.
For West Indies, Shai Hope has been central to their batting in the ODIs. He scored a century on his 100th ODI but could not help his side win the game. Skipper Nicholas Pooran also found some form in the second ODI scoring 74 runs.
“Definitely, last couple of overs we didn’t hold our nerves. Last 6 overs, we lost the game. We felt a spinner was easier to hit. We just needed one wicket to seal the game but Axar played really well. His (Hope’s) 100th ODI, he was exceptional to get a hundred. We did an exceptional job with the batting group. We tried to compete really hard. We want to win really bad” said Pooran in the post-match presentation lamenting not being able to dismiss Axar Patel.
