Chelsea could go head-to-head with Manchester United to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.
The Dutchman was frequently linked with a Premier League move last summer, but he decided to stay at Camp Nou.
However, the Blaugrana could force him to leave this time around, considering they need to reduce their wage bill by €200m.
United are firm admirers of the midfielder and they had a verbal agreement in place with the Blaugrana for him last year.
However, Fichajes claim that Chelsea could offer strong competition to United with the financial backing from their owners.
The Blues have spent a staggering €700m on signings in the last nine months and another spending spree is expected.
De Jong was also on their radar last year and they could lure him with a lucrative salary package ahead of next season.
As things stand, the midfielder is happy at Barcelona but he may not stay for long if the hierarchy continue to push him out.
