By Chris Williams: Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis is already looking ahead to fighting in April against Ryan Garcia after demolishing Hector Luis Garcia by a ninth round knockout last Saturday night in their much-talked-about fight in Washington, D.C.
Gervonta (28-0, 26 KOs) says Ryan’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya is already thinking about “that money” that they’re going to scoop up for the April mega-fight on Showtime PPV & DAZN.
According to Tank, Ryan (23-0, 19 KOs) still has some things he needs to agree on for the contract before the April clash is a 100% reality, but seeing how needy the popular Instagram star is, he’ll likely readily accept whatever is asked of him.
If Ryan doesn’t, he’ll be passed over, and he’ll have missed his opportunity, just as he did when he had the chance to face Devin Haney.
It’s not as if the 24-year-old social media star Ryan Garcia hasn’t had his window for big fights, but again and again, he’s chosen not to take the risky fights.
It’s as if Ryan has been saving himself for this one big cash-out against Tank Davis, which is why many boxing fans believe he’s a ‘manufactured fighter’ with no substance. In other words, a ‘hype job,’ a fighter with a built-up record, filled with fluff opponents, creating a mirage to trick fans into believing he’s 24k gold, but in reality, he’s fools gold, i.e., worthless yellow, iron pyrite.
Tank hit the previously unbeaten Hector Garcia (16-1, 10 KOs) so hard in the eighth round that he temporarily lose vision in his right eye and was unable to come out for the ninth round.
“We got to do it again in April,” said Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis to ESNEWS about his fight with Ryan Garcia. “Of course, they want to make that money, that’s why,” Tank said when told that Ryan’s promoter Oscar De La Hoya said before the fight that he was rooting for him to defeat Hector Luis Garcia.
“Get ready,” Gervonta said about his personal message to Ryan Garcia.
“He [Hector Garcia] wasn’t tough. I didn’t want to make a mistake, and he catch me. So, I stayed cautious throughout the fight.
“I didn’t want to get caught hearing stuff going on outside of the ring, so I stepped back,” said Gervonta when asked what went through his head when the commotion occurred outside of the ring during his fight with Hector.
“My thing was him trying to catch me with a shot and by throwing double shots. So, I was angling, trying to throw hard every time.
“You wasn’t looking for the knockout, but you were placing your shots. You were putting them together, man,” said coach Calvin Ford to Gervonta. “Your inside game was fantastic.”
