After a tough start to the 2021 season, Triston McKenzie has looked like a starting pitcher the Indians can rely upon in future years, while Kris Bubic hopes to prove the same to Royals fans in Kansas City on Thursday.

Bubic began the season with a 1.52 ERA in his first seven appearances of the season, but has a 6.78 ERA since the beginning of June across 16 outings with 4.8 walks and more than 2.5 home runs per nine innings allowed.

McKenzie is coming off an August in which he allowed three runs or fewer in all four of his starts, posting a 1.93 ERA and .126 opponents batting average. He has allowed one walk or fewer in seven of his last eight starts after issuing 8.3 walks per nine innings in his first 11 appearances.

The Indians closed August scoring at least seven runs in four of their last six games and were fifth in the MLB in batting average in August with a .261, Cleveland’s bullpen ERA ranked eighth in the majors entering Wednesday while the Kansas City’s was 20th.

With the Royals closing out August having scored four runs or fewer in eight of their last nine home games, an Indians team that entered Wednesday winners of seven of their last 10 will continue to prosper.

The play: Indians, moneyline.
