WELLINGTON – New Zealand captain Sam Dickson spoke of his pride after their nail-biting win over Argentina in the final in Toulouse, as they wrapped up the overall World Sevens Series crown.

It was a bumper weekend for New Zealand as the Black Ferns celebrated a seventh overall series title and then roared back to stun the United States 19-14 in the women’s final.

The All Blacks’ Sevens dug deep for a 24-19 extra-time win in Sunday’s final with Roderick Solo touching down the decisive try after Argentina had led at half-time.

New Zealand secured the overall series title on their way to the final in Toulouse, with the last leg in London to come.

“So proud of the boys to come back again in extra time and show that ticker we’ve had all season and top off our World Series,” said Dickson.

“This victory means a lot to everyone.”

New Zealand’s women had already sealed the overall title en route to their final.

But the Black Ferns looked set to have a 35-match winning streak ended as they went 14-0 down to the Americans after captain Sarah Hirini was shown a yellow card.

Stacey Waaka sparked a comeback and touched down the winning try to seal a 19-14 win.

“To go 14 points down against a team like that and then to come back and grind out a win, I’m so proud, I’m so happy with the group and the season that we’ve had,” said Hirini, who admitted being “pretty gutted” by her card.
